From Vision to Reality

JWC is proud to have worked with Mars Architects to bring new life to the historic Brown College and Jones College dormitories at Rice University. These dorms, deeply rooted in tradition, were updated to blend the charm of their original architecture with modern amenities that enhance student life. Focusing on revitalizing basements and lobbies, the project added much-needed student spaces that cater to both study and relaxation, all while honoring the historical foundation of the buildings.

Throughout the renovation, we took a student-led approach, engaging directly with the Rice community to understand their needs. Working closely with students, we incorporated their feedback into the design, ensuring the new spaces support collaboration, creativity, and comfort. The result is a thoughtful mix of functionality and tradition that makes students feel at home while providing them with the modern comforts they need.

These updates not only improve the day-to-day experience for students but also ensure these dormitories remain vibrant and relevant for years to come. By carefully maintaining the historical integrity of Brown College and Jones College while introducing updated spaces, we’ve helped create environments that honor the past while embracing the future
